CREATIVE MOTION FOR STUDIO TEACHERS

Many people instinctively know if a piece of music has been effectively performed. Teaching a performer to be expressive is often a challenge. Creative Motion provides alternatives to traditional forms of instruction. These strategies help you to involve your students in allowing their own music to flow naturally from within themselves.

The whole person - body, mind and spirit - is the primary instrument in all music making. By internalizing the motion of music through movement, another layer of experience is added for the musician. The piano, cello, or trumpet can only produce music which has already been experienced within the musician's body.

In Creative Motion classes, the interrelated elements of all musical elements (pitch, interval, melody, pulse, note value, rhythm, meter, harmony, phrase, etc.) are explored through movement exercises. Creative Motion helps you guide your students as they learn about balance and movement through space; they gain a deeper understanding of the relationships of time within music.

Some of the first teachers who studied Creative Motion maintained private studios. The studio setting allows for finding nuance in the score, and bringing a heightened sense of artistry to the performance.
